Rescuer at work: the Drama Triangle in teams
Every team has one: the person who takes the failing task, stays late for someone else's deadline, and quietly resents everyone by Friday. In TA language this is the Rescuer position of the Drama Triangle — helping that was never really asked for, offered from a place that needs to be needed. The help is real; so is the bill.
The triangle rotates. Today's Rescuer becomes tomorrow's Persecutor (“After everything I did for this team!”) or Victim (“Nobody appreciates anything here”). Teams do not escape by finding better people; they escape when someone answers from the Adult instead: asking “What exactly do you need, and what part is yours?” — and letting the answer stand.
In leader sessions we slow one real meeting down and map it: who rescued, who prosecuted, where the switch happened. The map alone usually changes the next meeting. The rest is practice — and a contract about what you will stop doing for your team, kindly and out loud.
